Before the deposit, verify the property, the person and the terms. A little preparation makes it much easier to enjoy the actual trip.
Verify the person who is offering it
Ask for the property address, the manager’s name and evidence that the person you are paying is authorized to handle the rental. An attractive Instagram account is not proof of ownership or management rights. If information does not match, stop and clarify before sending money.
Request current proof of the property
Ask for dated photos or a live video showing entrances, bedrooms, pool, kitchen and common areas. Confirm the property exists at the shared pin and that what you see is what your group will actually have access to. Be wary of recycled photos appearing in unrelated ads.
Get the full amount in writing
The nightly rate is only part of the story. Ask about security deposits, cleaning fees, extra guests, pet charges, event surcharges and cancellation terms. Put arrival time, departure time and refund rules in the same conversation or contract.
Choose a payment method you can verify
Never rush a payment because someone claims another group is waiting. Verify who receives the money and what documentation you will receive. Keep your receipt and complete conversation record. If anything feels inconsistent, find another property.
The bottom line
Make a checklist, ask direct questions and request written confirmation of the details that matter to your group. Real properties and policies vary, so verify everything with the operator before sending money.
